accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  It offers programs for gifted students and special education for handicapped students.

Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap offers two-year degree programs in technical and occupational subjects, and the first two years of college level subjects in the arts and sciences.

Health Care:  Scott County residents have access to four hospitals in the adjacent Tri-Cities area.  There are several doctors and dentists, community clinics,and three nursing homes in the county.

Libraries:  Scott Co. is part of the Lonesome Pine Regional Library System and has over 84,000 volumes.

Religion:  There are over 100 churches in the county representing most Protestant denominations and the Roman Catholic faith.  A Jewish Synagogue is located in nearby Blountville, TN.

TRANSPORTATION  

Scott County is served by five primary highways:  U.S. 23, U.S.58, VA. 65, VA.71, and VA.72.

Interstates:  I-181 (22 miles); I-81 (33 miles); I-75 (48 miles)

Commercial Air Service:   Tri-Cities Regional Airport in Blountville, TN is approximately 33 miles from Scott Co.

Railroads:  CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Railway

Trucking:  Over fifty motor freight carriers have terminals in Scott Co. or within a 30-mile radius. 

INDUSTRIAL PARKS  

Scott County has two industrial parks.

Duffield Regional Industrial Park, Duffield, VA has 36.9 acres available, some sites with rail access.  There are also three vacant facilities available.  The Duffield Industrial Park is designated as a Virginia Enterprise Zone.

Scott Co. Industrial Park, Dungannon, VA has 36.75 acres available.
